I got lectured by a lifeguard once for wearing it at the Clunie pool.I was just swimming laps during adult lap swimmming hours. He actually came after me when I was leaving and asked me all kinds of personal questions like where do I normally swim. I wouldn't tell him and he called EVERY public pool until he found the one I usually swam at and asked that pool manager if he could prevent me from swimming there. My pool manager said no because the posted rules do not restrict it.

Geez. That guy's got a problem.

I'll admit I tend more toward the modest side in swimwear, but that's over the top.

I've worn a thong before, but definitely wouldn't now (post baby). I have no problem with other people wearing them! If you got it, flaunt it!!

I don't have a problem with other people wearing them.  The lifeguard has no right to try to get things inforced at other pools.

This made me think about when girls and women were required to wear swim caps but guys weren't.  They said it was to keep hair out of the filters.  A group of pool members pointed out that most of the guys swimming at that pool had long hair too. They elimanated the rule. (although I wonder if that same issue came up these days if they would make they guys wear them too.  Some people just like to enforce rules)

Well, the lifeguard had mothers come up and complain to him about "that lady in a thong" and how they didn't want their kids, in swim lessions at the other end to see such a thing.

I actually agree with the lifeguard to a small extent. I would be upset If my son was at the other end of the pool and within eye range of an adult lady wearing a thong at a public pool. I don't think a public pool with children is the right place to wear a thong. It doesn't help you swim your laps any faster then a full coverage bottom so really is it that necessary? It seems like a cry for attention to me..... I mean a beach, a pool party, the lake, those places are all totally acceptable places to wear a thong. A public pool? That's over the top. Sorry

I get that, but I think calling around  to public pools is also over the top.

At some point we all need to get over our bad selves.

I don't agree with how the lifeguard handled the whole situation.  I think if there was an issue he could have invloved the manager and not talk to you like that.

I have 2 young boys and don't think that would be the most appropriate swimwear for a public pool, but they've seen worse at the beach.

I must add that the only time anyone could have seen me was the brief moment that I dropped my towel on the edge and jumped in to swim and then again when I got out and put my towel around me. However, I do think it is silly to worry about a child seeing a bare butt. Why should that be not OK? Is that something to be ashamed of?

Why would you wear one in public unless you want to stir up something is my question? I think it's fine for home but not at a "PUBLIC "pool.

I would have took my kids and left.  I don't want my kids seeing that or thinking that it's ok.  We raise our kids to be modest.
